Can I register a business and sell a range of products / services under the same business?
I have an ebay shop selling fabric and I also have started doing helium balloon displays for birthdays, weddings etc. On top of this i work 2 jobs totalling 46 hours per week. I pay income tax etc on both jobs but i need to start paying tax on any other income. Is it possible to register as a business and sell different products / services under the same business name?
The short answer is yes, you can. When you register a business, you can do as many different kinds of legitimate business you want.
When you say that you want to register a business, that can mean several different things. The simplest way is to register as a sole-proprietorship. If you don’t plan on having employees, and you aren’t worried about being sued for anything, thing is probably the way to go.
However, many people form corporations to limit their liability. Suppose you fall on hard times and can’t pay your suppliers for your fabric business. If you have a sole-proprietorship, your supplier can sue you personally for money your business owes. If you have a corporation, then they can sue the corporation, but not you personally.
The reason I went into all of this is to address your original question. If you do this all under one business, whether sole-proprietorship or corporation, then problems with one part of your business can affect other parts of your business.
